Treo 700
Palm Treo is one of the best-selling and most popular ranges of smartphones. The success of the Treo 600 series has prompted Palm to take out the Palm Treo 700 series which include many improved features as well as the legendary reliability of the Palm technology.
The best thing about Palm phones, which is that it lets you operate virtually with one hand, is still there. However, the 700 series introduces new operating system and increased memory capacity. Another great addition is that they support EV-DO high-speed wireless data, which increases the efficiency of the phone. Let us now take a look at the unique features of each model.
Treo 700w
Palm OS, the unique feature of Palm phones, is replaced for the first time in a Palm phone by Windows Mobile 5.0. It is a good operating system, but for Palm fans it may seem like a downgrade. Well, you need not worry as Palm has actually made a few changes to the Windows OS and the one-handed usability is still very much there.
The phone comes with a silver-gray casing with a 2”X2”, 320 by 320 display. It has Bluetooth 1.2 compliance and supports MMC, SD and SDIO cards. Priced around $500, it is definitely worth checking out.
Treo 700p
This phone goes back to Palm OS, which by now has become one of the most beloved mobile operating systems because of its ease of use. It comes in a gray and silver sleek casing quite similar to the 700p where the silver was the dominant color.
Otherwise there is very little cosmetic change to the phone. Feature-wise also, it offers the same functionalities. However, one marked improvement is the memory capacity, which has been increased to 128 MB (non-volatile) from 124 MB. The internal application memory has also been increased.
Treo 700wx
Treo 700wx, the latest in the 700 series again shares many common features with 700w and 700p. However, like 700w, 700wx also uses Windows Mobile 5.0 OS. The display is downgraded to 220X220. Other than these, there are very few minor changes. Some carriers offer 700wx phones, which can be used as wireless modems. It will also cost around $500 depending on the carrier.
